The most effective teeth whitening applications take place in the office of a dental professional. However, if your teeth are lightly stained, there are some measures you can take at home to lessen in the discoloration. Here are a few of them:

Brush with turmeric.

Each time you brush with turmeric, the spice whitens your teeth. Turmeric, which is known for its savory flavor is often used to make Indian cuisine. However, the deep yellow spice is also an effective natural tooth whitener. As turmeric is brushed onto the teeth, it polishes away stains. In addition, turmeric lessens inflammation in the mouth and kills oral bacteria.

Turmeric can permanently stain clothing and discolor countertops for a prolonged period so try to avoid spilling the spice once it has been moistened with water.  .

Rinse with hydrogen peroxide.

You can also whiten your teeth by rinsing with a hydrogen peroxide solution. Hydrogen peroxide can be added to an equal amount of water to create a whitening mouth rinse, which may be used daily after you brush your teeth. The oxygenating action bleaches away dental stains and helps kill oral bacteria.

Brush with powdered charcoal.

Activated charcoal can be used to polish away stains that discolor your teeth. The black powder also scrapes away plaque that can yellow the teeth.

Oil pull with olive oil.

Olive oil can be used with a technique oil pulling to whiten the teeth. The oil should be swished in the mouth for about 20 minutes and then released. Once the oil is released from the mouth, the mouth should be rinsed, and then, the teeth are brushed as usual. The process helps remove oil-based stains and kills oral bacteria.

Brush with coconut oil.

In addition to being able to use coconut oil during oil pulling, it can be used as a natural teeth whitener. The oil is also anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, so it can help improve oral health. Coconut oil hardens at room temperature, so it is best to avoid spitting the oil into a sink or toilet.

Brush with baking soda paste.

Baking soda can also be used to whiten teeth. Baking soda is slightly coarse, so it scrapes plaque away from the teeth and helps polish away dental stains. Still, it is best to mix the powder with enough water to form a loose consistency and to apply it gently. Any abrasive substance that is applied with great force to the teeth can cause enamel erosion.
